DDReader is DAISY 3 reading software developed by the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind. It is available in three languages: Portuguese, Spanish and English, is free to use and share, and is the first free Portuguese DAISY 3.0 reader! DDR is a Firefox add-on; Firefox must be installed to use it.

eClipseWare version 4.1

eClipseWriter and eClipseWriter Professional from IRTI: eClipseWriter Professional is a self-voicing word processor, scanning and reading system that creates DAISY media for personal use. eClipseWriter and eClipseWriter Professional now offer four different user interfaces tailored to address different applications:

• Scan and Read Mode
• Basic Word Processing Mode
• 2 Advance Operation Modes

Odt2dtbook: Save As DAISY - Open Office

Odt2dtbook is an OpenOffice.org Writer extension, enabling to export in DAISY 3 format, including support of mathematical content conforming to the MathML standard. Version 1.0.1, released October 26, is a stable version which is greatly improved over the current beta version 0.0.5 which was the beta released this spring. Odt2dtbook V1.0.1 provides:

• Support of page numbering (including advanced management of page numbering)
• Support of notes (end notes, rear notes)
• Support of table of contents
• Support of multilingual documents

This release includes numerous improvements and bug fixes. Manuals are available in DTBook format, in Full DAISY, and in iPod audiobook. Additional information and a link to the Odt2dtbook website are available in the DAISY Projects area.

VR Stream 2.0 multi-lingual versions

Multilingual versions of VR Stream 2.0 were announced October 10th. Versions for Danish, Dutch, French, German, Norwegian and Swedish can be downloaded from the VR Stream page on the HumanWare website. Information about HumanWare and links are provided in the list of DAISY Members and Friends.

Activated Content .NET Audio Watermarking Library

Activated Content .NET Audio Watermarking Library can be used to watermark your DAISY files, either for downloads or books on disc. Activated Content joined the DAISY Consortium in August 2008.

Victor Reader Stream 2.0 by HumanWare

There are exciting new features and improvements in software version 2.0 which is the most comprehensive software upgrade yet released for the Stream.

Highlights of 2.0 include: new dedicated bookshelf to save downloaded podcast audio files; audible books will now be announced on its own bookshelf instead of Other Books bookshelf; support of electronic Braille (BRF) files placed on the text bookshelf; support for Rich Text Format (RTF) files on the text bookshelf; support for unprotected Windows Media Audio (WMA version 9); spell mode for text files; ability to disable key beeps and sleep messages; ...and much more. Duxbury Braille Translator version 10.7

DAISY Members Duxbury Systems, Inc. and Design Science, Inc. have collaborated on Duxbury Braille Translator™ (DBT) version 10.7 with support for direct import of Microsoft Word documents containing mathematical equations created with MathType™. This improvement will allow users to author math with MathType in MS Word and then translate those materials to braille via DBT for Windows.

Dolphin EasyReader version 3

EasyReader version 3 joins the list of DAISY playback tools that support reading the DAISY XML file created by the Microsoft 'Save as DAISY XML' add-in. It also reads aloud the DAISY material while synchronizing the words highlighted on screen with speech enabled with Acapela voices.

Save as DAISY XML - Microsoft Word (v1.3.0)

The first public release of a translator from Office Open XML to DAISY XML is now available for Microsoft Word XP, 2003, and 2007. Information on how to download the free add-in for Word is available on the Microsoft PressPass site and on the Save as DAISY - Microsoft project page. Version 1 of the translator outputs the text of a Word document as DAISY XML (the DTBook file) which can be transformed via the new version of the DAISY Pipeline or other DAISY conversion and authoring tools into a playable DAISY book.

DAISY Pipeline Maintenance Release (v20080502)

This latest release of the DAISY Pipeline features several usability improvements including a new Windows installer, partial Hindi localization, as well as performance enhancements and the inclusion of a validator for OPS/EPUB files, the file format based on the open standard developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Also included are beta versions of several new, pivotal transformers which support the migration of content from one DAISY Standard to another.

AMIS 3 beta

The first beta of AMIS 3 has been released for testing. It can be downloaded from the AMIS Project site http://amisproject.org/ Ambulant, the SMIL multimedia player developed by CWI (the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands) has been embedded in AMIS 3, which means it will be able to support video and other rich SMIL multimedia in addition to its capability as a DAISY book player.

ZedVal 2.0

ZedVal 2.0 is now been formally released, following 4 earlier Release Candidates, This release includes support for DTBook 2005-3 and two bug fixes.

ZedVal, also known as the ANSI/NISO Z39.86 Validator, is a DAISY 3 content validator. It is an open source development project, and is available free of charge to everyone. Those interested in learning more will find information on the DAISY Web site Project area for ZedVal.

EasyConverter 3.01 by Dolphin

IVEO is for those who learn better with touch, sound, and sight combined, thus utilizing any or all three learning modalities to learn faster and retain longer. A free IVEO viewer, compatible with DAISY SVG plug-in, is available from ViewPlus Technologies.

Sigtuna DAR 3, version 3.0.22

The final release of Sigtuna DAR 3, version 3.0.22, has just been made available. This DAISY 2.02 production tools supports the production of DAISY books with audio and structure, as well as full text/audio DAISY books. It is made available to DAISY Members by the Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, JSRPD. A license is required.

Milestone 311

The Milestone 311 is a DAISY 2.02 player, voice recorder and MP3-player. It is a portable, multi-purpose device about the size of a credit card. This pocket-size device provides DAISY navigation with full access to heading levels, page numbers, phrases, etc. It also supports bookmark setting and switching between books on the memory card.

DTB2iTunes 2.0

DTB2iTunes is a program used to combine all of the audio files of a DAISY DTB into a single MP3 file or iTune Audiobook format and upload it to your iTunes or other MP3 application.

MyStudio PC v2.04

The Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (JSRPD) has just released Version 2.04.00.00 of MyStudio PC, the DAISY 2.02 structure and audio production tool which is available to DAISY Member organizations at no cost.

HumanWare ClassMate

This new player from HumanWare is a portable DAISY reading system for K-12 students with reading difficulties. Released October 17, 2007, this tool was designed to help students in and out of the classroom. It is quite a unique, portable and lightweight system about the size of a portable gaming system with a large LCD screen. The ClassMate supports a wide variety of electronic formats, including DAISY, NIMAS (National Instructional Material Accessible Standard) format, Bookshare.org, Audible.com, text, wav, MP3 and audio file formats. It also provides integrated text-to-speech for reading books in text format.

Book Wizard Producer Version 1.3.1.0 by APH

This production software creates audio only, text only, or text and audio DAISY/NISO-2002 books and supports playback of DAISY 2.02 books. Book Wizard Producer provides options for both original recording and import of existing audio and HTML text files. An online manual is available on the APH Web site.
